Membrane Keyboards

The interface between humans and machines

The membrane keypad is the central element for interaction between product and user, and thus responsible for the experience of your product.

Compact, cost-effective and adaptable to almost any surface

Membrane keypads are tried and tested and at the same time as relevant as ever. The advantages are obvious: They can adapt to the shape of the product, they are barely noticeable, are light, durable, robust, scratch-resistant, splash-proof, chemical-resistant and hygienic.

How the membrane keypad is constructed

Despite their minimal height, membrane keypads have an extremely complex structure. As a rule, they consist of several layers that function as a keypad in combination.

Printing techniques from
FOL-TECH

Membrane keypads are manufactured using screen printing or digital printing. These printing techniques offer flexibility and durability for a wide range of applications, from medical devices to industry.

Safety standards

We offer the appropriate IP standard for every area of application.

Depending on the area of application, the membrane keypad requires special properties. Our membrane keypads are available in various IP protection classes, which define the degree of protection against external influences. The IP protection classes defined according to ISO 20653 and DIN EN 60529 are indicated by a combination of numbers and letters. The first digit indicates the degree of protection against the ingress of solid objects such as dust, while the second digit describes the degree of protection against the ingress of moisture.

First digit

Protection against foreign bodies and contact

0 – Unprotected

1 – Protected against solid foreign bodies > 50 mm

2 – Protected against solid foreign bodies > 12 mm

3 – Protected against solid foreign bodies > 2.5 mm

4 – Protected against solid foreign bodies > 1 mm

5 – Protected against dust

6 – Dust-tight

7 – /

8 – /

9 – /

Second digit

Protection against water and water penetration

0 – Unprotected

1 – Protected against dripping water

2 – Protected against dripping water at a 15° angle of incidence

3 – Protected against spray water

4 – Protected against splash water

5 – Protected against jet water

6 – Protected against heavy seas, strong jet water

7 – Protected against temporary immersion

8 – Protected against permanent submersion

9 – Protected against water during high-pressure/steam jet cleaning

Membrane keypads from Fol-Tech

For every application, whether indoors or outdoors

Our membrane keypads are available in various IP protection classes, which define the degree of protection against external influences. The IP protection classes are indicated by a combination of numbers and letters. The first digit indicates the degree of protection against the ingress of solid objects such as dust, while the second digit describes the degree of protection against the ingress of moisture. The membrane keypads are used in the following areas of application:

  1. Medical technology: In medical devices and facilities such as hospital beds, medical diagnostic devices or laboratory equipment, membrane keypads with IP protection classes are indispensable. They not only offer a hygienic operating surface, but also protection against dust, liquids and cleaning agents.
  2. Industrial automation: In industrial automation, especially in manufacturing plants or machine controls, membrane keypads with IP protection classes are essential. They withstand the challenges of dust, dirt, oils and moisture and ensure reliable control and operation of the systems.
  3. Outdoor applications: For outdoor use, for example in vehicle technology, on construction sites or in traffic systems, membrane keypads with IP protection classes are ideally suited. They protect against weather conditions such as rain, snow or dust and ensure reliable function even under extreme conditions.
  4. Telecommunications and information technology: In the telecommunications and IT industry, membrane keypads with IP protection classes are used in devices such as telephones, communication systems or server controls. They offer protection against dust and moisture and enable precise and reliable operation.
  5. Devices for the food and beverage industry: In the food and beverage industry, in restaurants or in kitchen appliances, membrane keypads with IP protection classes are of great importance. They protect against spills, grease, dust and chemical cleaning agents and ensure hygienic and safe operation.
